The Kaya tree of Hyuga is the finest material
for a Go board, and has a beautiful grain and moderate elasticity.
As it contains much oil, it has beautiful luster and aromatic
smell.
There are two reasons why the Kaya tree of "Hyuga-no-kuni
" ( former place name ) is said to be the finest.
Firstly, its grain is very distinct
as it is grown in places where there is great variation
in temperature between day and night.
Secondly, it has densed annual ring as it grows slowly
in rocky places.
The Hyuga Kaya Go board ( Masame:quarter grain ) is used
practically always at the title match. |
