These stones were made with jade of the highest
quality, imported from Kachin (sp?) province in northern Myanmar. Selected for
strength and clarity, the jade was painstakingly worked by local craftsmen who
have dedicated their lives to this traditional art. The result: semi-transparent
stones with a beautiful glossy finish and just a hint of green. Jade has been
treasured since ancient times. Add this extra touch of luxury to your Go collection. |

The shells of "shako", or giant clams,
have a unique pale pattern and are favored by many collectors because the stones
produced from these shells display the same pattern on both sides. Shako stones
are especially rare since only very large shells yield high-quality Go stones
and large shells are becoming harder and harder to find on the open market. Since
the animals themselves are protected under the Washington Treaty, the rarity
and value of shako stones can only increase. |

Some of these beautiful shells display natural
spotted or striped patterns in a variety of colors ranging from beige and dark
brown to pink. In some rare instances, shells with a dramatic dash of purple
(as seen in the picture) con be found. Go stone sets made with these shells are
available with selected colors and patterns. (Patterns are only displayed on
one side of a stone.) |

Go Borad

Artistic Antiques. Maki-e Go board |
350,000JPY |
SOLD OUT |
|
|
This Maki-e Go board is more than 100 years old,
but still very beautiful with no degradetion caused by aging.
Makie has encircled family crests, which according to my research illustrates
ivy.
This was used as the second offical family crest of Tokugawa Famiy in Kishu area
( presently Wakayama Prefecture and around ) followed by the first crest of hollyhock,
in the parents' house of the 8th Shogun named Yoshimune Tokugawa ( 1684-1751
).
It is well known as noble family crest.
The Maki-e also has an image of crane.
Crane is the symbol of logevity and a truly auspicious bird in Japan.
Therefore, crane and tortoise are often used in festive and happy occasions.
The makie is called "Kinko Makie", which means it uses high quality pure fine
gold and really valuable item as antique.
I hope you would consider adding this rare item to your collections. |
